Thornybush Private Game Reserve (1991)

It all began in 1984 with a simple meeting between two men about a piece of land. There was the old Dyason family game lodge and little more. Today it boasts no less than 13 luxury lodges, spread over some 11 000 hectares of prime African bushveld – from the rustic charm of Chapungu Lodge to the glamour of Royal Malewane. Piece by piece, through lengthy negotiations and innovative deals, Thornybush Private Game Reserve has grown and matured into one of the country’s premier wildlife destinations.

It was home to the first adult elephant family group relocation ever undertaken. The first meeting of all involved, in the removal of the Kruger Western boundary fence, was hosted here. Thornybush stands as a testament to what like-minded individuals with a common vision can achieve.
